Home Security Advice

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

When the topic of home security springs to mind, most people seem to think of burglar alarms and little to nothing else. Alarms can be a great way to protect your home, although they are only a small part of what makes up an effective home security system. Burglar alarms are a key to protecting your home – although there are other things you’ll need as well.

Believe it or not, the windows are actually the key to home security. Homes that have poor constructed windows tend to get broken into a lot more than homes with secure and sturdy windows. When you are dealing with your windows, you should make sure that you have tough glass and locks that fit to the windows. When you are away from home, you should always make sure that your windows are locked. Even though some windows may be hard to reach, you should always lock them. Burglars make a living out of stealing – and they will normally find a way in if they see the opening.

Along with the windows, doors are also known to be a weakness of security around the home. Doors should always be strong and sturdy, complete with tough locks that aren’t easy to force open. If you have a spare key, you should be careful where you leave it. Losing your keys can also make you a target, especially if you have anything on your key ring that reveals your home address.

To better protect their homes, most people choose to invest in a home surveillance system. These systems are great for monitoring the home, as they can record video and keep it stored for you to view later. If you travel a lot, a home surveillance system can be an ideal way to keep a check on your home while you’re away.

Guard dogs are also common with home security as well. A guard dog can protect your home from burglars, thieves, and other types of trouble. Guard dogs can be very handy to have around, as most dogs are more than capable of scaring away trouble with their bark. The only downside to guard dogs is the fact that you’ll need to train them and ensure that they always have food and water.

Last, but certainly not least are burglar alarms. Burglar alarms can be effective to an extent, although they are primarily good for scaring thieves away. If you put an alarm in a visible location from the outside of the home, most burglars won’t even attempt to enter your home. Even though burglar alarms are great for scaring off thieves – you’ll still need to have other areas of your home safe and secure as well to get the most of your home security.

It’s probally best to have greater home security measures in place before you look for American home insurance or American homeowners insurance quotes from your American home insurance company

Functional Selecting The Highest Quality Comforter Sets

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

Many people would love to have a designer bedroom which looks like it was put together by a professional. A stylish bedroom needs to have a well chosen comforter set. There are two different ways for getting the perfect comforter set for your bedroom.

One idea is to buy the comforter set you love the most and then design the rest of the bedroom to coordinate with in. Another method is to buy a comforter set which blends in with the theme you already have in the room. If your bedroom already has a design theme you will need to think about it while you are looking for a new comforter set.

A bedroom with a rustic feel will look great with a comforter set in a classic plaid or moose print. Use silks and brocades in a room with a more sophisticated design scheme. Color is just as important as style when buying a new discount comforter set. If the rest of the accessories in your bedroom are in pale pastels then look for a comforter set to match.

When you have colorful patterns on your wallpaper or rugs it is best to stick with a solid color for the comforter set. If, on the other hand, your walls and rug are solid you might want to add some style to the room with a comforter set in an exciting pattern. If you choose to design the entire room around the comforter set your first task is to look around at all your options.

Wait until you fall in love with a comforter and use those colors throughout the space. If you decide to use this method look at the color of your walls and carpeting unless you are willing to change them. Another important consideration when buying a comforter set is quality. Buy one that is well made and uses good quality materials.

Kid’s Shoes Fitting Guide

Monday, October 26th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

Children’s feet can grow an entire size or mroe every three months which can make it tough to keep properly fitted shoes on your children.

When shopping for your first pair of kid’s shoes, you should wait until your child starts to walk.  Research shows children develop well-devloped feet when they learn to walk barefoot first.  You can use soft booties or warm skid-free socks to keep your child’s feet warm and unrestricted.

When your child does begin to walk and it’s time to buy their first pair of baby shoes, you should take them to a quality children’s shoes store with children’s shoes specialist that can properly fit your child.  Recommended stores are Stride Ride, Elefanted, and Nordstrom.

Have the salesperson measure the length and width of both your child’s feet.  Many children have a wide foot and need wider shoes that will fit them properly.  Also make sure the shoes aren’t too big, which will cause your child to trip.  The first pair of shoes should be soft and pliable to let your child get a feel for the ground.

As your child grows, have your child get their feet measured on a regular basis at a shoe store that specializes in children’s shoes.  Since kids grow fast, their shoe size can change from month to month.  If you do buy shoes from somewhere without a salesperson, make sure to know their size so you can be certain what shoes will fit them properly.

When buying shoes, have your child try both shoes on to see if everything fits and feels right.  Until your child can tie their own shoes, buying shoes with velcro will save both of you a lot of time.

Top 3 Snacking Tips to Lose Weight Fast

Monday, October 26th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

Snacking is one of the deadly sins that will thwart all of your weight loss efforts. Here are three great snack-related tips to help you fly right and lose weight fast.

1. Avoid snacking during breaks at work. The “coffee break” is a killer when it comes to snacking. You know the drill — everybody gathers in the break room around the coffee pot and the bagels and vending machines. Next thing you know you’re inhaling Cheese Nips. Why not trying something different? Take a short walk, read a health-related article or listen to a bit of a relaxing audio book. You’ll find it’s easy to take a break without snacking out.

2. Organize your pantry. Knowing what you have to eat helps you avoid grabbing whatever is convenient. If your pantry is well laid out and organized, you’ll be able to make better choices for meals without the hassle of digging around in the pantry or refrigerator. The longer it takes to find the good stuff, the more likely you’ll be to just grab what’s accessible instead.

3. Stock up on healthy foods. We’re all busy, right? It’s easy to “grab and go” — sometimes we have no choice. Make sure you have plenty of healthy foods and snacks available in the kitchen so when you do have to grab and go it can be something you don’t have to regret eating later.

The Dell Inspiron 910 Mini Experience

Monday, October 26th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

That’s the experience with the Inspiron 910 Mini not the mini-experience! Well I am in web design and have been toying with the idea of getting a more portable laptop as my old Dell Inspiron from 2003 is as heavy as a brick. My step dad just bought a top of the range Toshiba Portege at around £1,200, but he’s at that time in life where 1,200 quid is affordable, where as I’m still in financial recovery from my last divorce (yes there was more than one!)! So I happened across the Dell Inspiron 910 Mini on the Dell website whilst looking at specs of normal laptops to use when out and about demonstrating our CMS system to potential clients, wow £299 inc VAT and delivery that is a bargain!

There I was credit card at the ready, wrist twitching, hang on I thought, why am I buying this, do I really need it? No, I don’t NEED it I just WANT ONE . [Puts credit card away]

The next day I happen to have to work on my step Dads’ ultra lightweight new laptop, wow this is lush, so light, I wish I could afford one.

The next day I had to go to a clients with my laptop, and about put my back out trying to put it in the car passenger foot well whilst sitting in the drivers’ seat, hmm decided I do have a NEED for the new dell Inspiron mini after all! It only weights around 1kg. So as I had a management meeting that afternoon I informed my finance manager I would be ordering one and that was that. So Friday October 3rd I placed the order on the Dell website, and on the 8th I got back from a meeting at the offices of the guys who look after Xbox hard drive price website to find a Dell cardboard box on my desk, I thought it couldn’t possibly be the new mini as the confirmation email I got said it would arrive on or around the 20th October, but sure enough it really had arrived.

Well I was ecstatic and got it out and started setting it up straight away, you know remove McAfee Security Centre and install Avast Anti Virus, that kind of thing. As it has an integrated web cam I also downloaded Windows Live Messenger and had a quick video chat with my girlfriend whilst she was doing her ironing, fantastic!

So I googled ‘mobile broadband suppliers’ and toyed with ordering the USB dongle from Three, as their 5GB monthly allowance is only 15 quid a month so the best looking deal, providing those coverage stories you hear about Three Mobile are not really the case!

Anyway, it was soon time to go and get my daughter from school so I thought yeah I’ll take it with me and even though I don’t have the mobile broadband dongle yet I can continue configuring it in car park if I’m early. I was early, so I turned it on, it said:

Windows could not start because of an error in the software.
Please report this problem as :
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem

As we say in England “Computer says no…”

Ah dear, it was great fun whilst it lasted, then followed a 2 and a half hour telethon with Dell support in India :-) Apparently they were so quick to ship it to me that my service tag isn’t on their system yet. They suggested I called back in 24-48 hours, well I told them exactly what I thought of their suggestion as I’m sure you can image, but to no avail. I did indeed have to call back today and they have agreed to send me a replacement unit as it is within 7 days of delivery.

I hope the replacement arrives as promptly as the original unit did…

So conclusion? Apart from the fact it doesn’t work (a faulty drive in my opinion) and for the life of me I can’t get it to boot from an external drive or USB key (it doesn’t have a CD or DVD drive you know) it feels really solid, looks lovely, and is nice to handle (sounds a bit like the ideal partner to an i-phone 2.0 doesn’t it!).

Like most reviewers have experienced, the keys are small (but blackberry users manage and they are larger than those keys) and the right shift key is tiny and means you can’t type an @ in the usual fashion and I wonder how it’s going to cope with all the complicated keyboard stuff it has to do when I lend it to a client like the ones running the Xbox 360 steering wheel website. The screen is nice though, 3 USB slots, a monitor connector, Ethernet and earphones and mic connectors although it has both speakers and mic internally so you can Live Messenger and both speak and listen through the inbuilt hardware without having to plug anything in.

On the whole, I would recommend it, providing you get one that isn’t broken ! I am also yet to try it with LogMeIn which is my preferred way of dealing with how to access emails, lots of passwords, specialist software and all that kind of thing when you are out and about. Possibly the screen is going to be too small to be able to work with for extended periods of time, but I’ll let you know when the replacement arrives and I have had chance to give it a proper testing, assuming that one doesn’t break on me as soon as I start urm ‘configuring’ it!

Classic Cars Insurance Tips

Monday, October 26th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

For the car enthusiast there is little dearer to them than their classic car. These beautiful old cars truly become a part of the family, a very cherished and coddled part. This means for the true classic car fanatic insurance is a must have. There are then, several tips for buying classic car insurance that you should be aware of.

1. Restrictions- Some people only take their classic cars out for truly special occasions, such as parades and shows. There are classic car insurance policies that will reflect this behavior and if you plan to take your old hot rod to the beach this weekend, you should know if you are covered.

2. Storage- Be careful of insurance policies that require your classic car to be stored in a locked garage or trailer. Any damages your car might receive parked in your driveway may not be covered.

3. Amount of Coverage- Classic car insurance is a bit different from traditional insurance, in the coverage amount. Some companies will use a stated value or agreed upon value for insurance. Be sure you know which method they use to determine your classic car value, before you have to make a claim.

4. Repairs- You should check with your insurance company about the requirements for any repairs. On some occasions, your insurance may require you to use a specific shop, and as stated above classic cars are like a part of the family and you may not be comfortable with just anyone working on her.

Conclusion

Classic cars can be worth a mint if they are cared for and documented correctly. One key piece of this puzzle is good insurance in case of accidents. Know your insurance policy well when it comes to covering your special piece of automobile history.

Two Techniques For Penny Stock Fortunes

Sunday, October 25th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

As you venture on the unsecured path of day trading penny stocks, I urge you to first lay down a clear understanding of the particular maneuvers applied by knowledgeable penny stock traders and practice those proficiencies in paper trading (practice trading without money).

After you have a firm hold on the pitfalls of penny stock trading, you must master the essential schemes exercised by penny stock investors. The first strategy I will talk about is the long play and the second is named the short play. You should practice these tactics long before you connect a real bank account with a brokerage account.

A long play is just like investing in a growth stock, except you buy penny stock well before a strong history has been established for the stock’s company. A long play basically means buying a penny stock and then holding it for a long term investment. You can really make a ton of money if you hit upon the penny stock of a company with a great product and ton of potential.

Both of these penny stock proficiencies will be applied in buying penny stocks online in general but only short plays will be employed to day trade penny stocks.

Penny stock short plays are more for the bold-hearted day trading penny stock investors. A short play is based on meticulous charting to delineate how a stock is channeling. To understand channeling, just imagine two straight flat lines placed along the jagged line of a line chart; the lower line represents the average low values of the stock and the higher line represents the average high values with the space between representing its channel. After you’re sure you have identified a clean pattern within the stock’s shifting values, a bold penny stock trader buys at the low side of the channel and sells at the high side.

In penny stock trading, this can be particularly risky for two reasons: one, penny stocks are highly susceptible to manipulation by scammers and because you’ll find low liquidity in penny stocks. This means they can be hard to sell, and end up buying on the low but unable to sell it during the short time it is at its peak.

So be very careful what information you believe on the Internet. If you are serious about buying penny stocks, after which you must practice plenty of care and skepticism while evaluating information on any single penny stock, particularly if you plan on day trading penny stock.

Yes you can make a ton of profit with penny stock trading, but do not low-ball the amount of hazard included and do not buy penny stocks without doing your due diligence.

College Football 101: A Beginner’s Guide

Sunday, October 25th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

So you want to become an NCAA football fan, but the game itself is a bit strange to you? Don’t feel bad. With so much information to keep track of from week to week, even the most seasons fans must catch up on the college football predictions before enjoying their favorite game.

College football is very similar to big league football. Let’s cover the basics. In a football match there is an offense and a defense. The offense usually has ownership of the football, and thus is able to score, while the defense tries to prevent the offense from bringing the football into the end zone. Teams alternate roles from offense to defense after a certain amount of time to allow both a fair chance to score. The offense or defense is determined prior to the start of the game by a coin toss. The visiting team is afforded the opportunity to call the coin toss. A team usually scores points solely when it is on offense. The goal of the offensive team is to head into the other team’s territory and bring the ball to the endzone.

There are two ways to advance the ball down the field either by running the ball or throwing it to a teammate who, after receiving the ball, runs with it until he either makes it into the endzone or is taken down by an opposing player.

The defense, conversely, is tasked to keep the offense from scoring. They kill the efforts of the offensive players by stopping their attempts at scoring. Defensive players cover the offensive players, often tackling the one who is holding the football. The defense should try their best to stop the ball from moving forward. By taking down the ball-carrier, the defense can sometimes even move the ball backward. Once in a while the defense manages to tackle the quarterback while the football is still in his posession. This is dubbed a sack. As with pro football, the team that manages to score the most points wins.

It’s just that simple. So now you can impress your friends with your impressive college football knowledge.

Dont be Afraid of Skinny Jeans

Sunday, October 25th, 2009 | Always Online | Comments Off

When I found out a few years ago there was something called “skinny jeans” and that with girls clothing they were coming into style, I must admit, I didn’t like the idea. I’m a curvy girl and only 5 feet, 2 inches tall, unlike Katelyn Rose who is tall. So, imagining a pair of tight jeans that showed every curve on my legs seemed like a bad idea.  Maybe even a nightmare! But if you’re like me, and have the same reservations about skinny jeans, I’m here to bring you hope.

Most girls don’t realize that you can wear skinny jeans in so many ways. If you are tall and slender, you may have more options than the rest of us, but girls of all shapes and sizes can pull off the skinny jean look. The thing to do is try out different combinations. You don’t know if you look good in a certain style until you try it, right? The key is finding a pair you feel comfortable and confident in. Try one of the following ideas.

1. Wear a long shirt that comes to about mid-thigh with your skinny jeans. This will help cover the hip area if that is a place you’re concerned about showing. This way, the most slender part of your leg will be showing only.

2. Put on a vest or cardigan that is longer than the shirt or tank you are wearing, to go with your skinny jeans. This will have the same effect as a long shirt, but gives you the ability to layer.

3. If you are shorter, make sure your skinny jeans don’t bunch at your ankle too much, as this will make you appear even shorter.

Those are just a few tips you can try out, but they might not work for everyone. The most important thing is that you feel good about how you look.

So now that I’ve overcome my fear of skinnies, I’ve fallen in love with them! Most recently I bought a pair of black skinny corduroys from Urban Outfitters for under $40. I love them in black because they flatter my figure and if I want, I can easily make them look dressy for a nice event, with the right top of course. And don’t forget how awesome these wonderful pants look with boots! The perfect look for a chilly fall day!
